Did Ripple influence Coinbase for listing their token?

Did Ripple influence United States cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase for listing their token? Cryptocurrency enthusiasts were feeling skeptical about the Coinbase’s decision to list Ripple’s token. After so many speculations, on 27 February, a senior executive claimed the blockchain payment network did not influence exchange’s decision to list XRP.

A debate happened on social media platform Twitter between Ripple’s head of markets, Miguel Vias and entrepreneur and Alistair Milne. Milne enquired about the rumors in a mail to the company which asks whether Ripple paid an incentive to Coinbase in order to list XRP on its trading platform, Coinbase Pro.

Coinbase’s director of communications, Elliott Suthers did not give valid information and he refused to comment on the issue in a public conversation. Milne in turn took this to social media by uploading a screenshot of Suther’s email. This made Vias to comment by denying the accusations.

“We’re happy to go on the record,” Vias wrote,

“Coinbase’s listing of XRP (also, not “our token”) was Coinbase’s independent decision - we did not give them anything to make it happen.”

He further added.

Some users were not really happy with the decision of Coinbase. Some of the responses by the Twitterati’s prove this,

A twitter user commented,

“Actually incorrect Miguel. You gave them the opportunity to make themselves a lot of money by coming to their senses and listing what will be the global financial standard very soon (although certain people will of course never believe something so obvious) ie #xrpthestandard|”

Another twitter user Brandon commented,

“This is great. Not only does Coinbase reject an offer from Ripple for millions of dollars to list XRP in 2017/2018, but now they listed it for free just so they aren't left behind 😂 Guys, everyone said it from the start. Coinbase was never making the best business decisions.”

Yesterday, Feb. 28, the exchange announced that it had added Ripple [XRP] to its platforms including Coinbase Pro. The platform confirmed that the users can now trade and store XRP both on the website and mobile apps supported on Android and iOS.
